Step into the shadows of Numbers of the Damned
Letter from the Creator
Ezer Hospital has always felt less like a ruin and more like a wound—open, unhealed, whispering.Though the name is fictitious, it stands in for countless institutions where lives were hidden away andultimately forgotten. Beneath their numbered graves lie people reduced to silence, denied even the dig-nity of being remembered. "Numbers of the Damned" is my attempt to give them back a voice. The idea began as a personal photography project. As a photographer and director, I spent years documenting abandoned hospitals and asylums—long corridors collapsing into shadow, rusted gurneysgathering dust, fields of graves marked only by numbers. The images captured decay, but what stayedwith me was presence. The silence in those frames felt alive, as if voices lingered just beyond reach. That’s when the project shifted: what started as still images demanded story. In tone and mood, the series carries the haunting beauty of "The Haunting of Hill House", the fracturedmystery of "True Detective", and the unease of "Archive 81". But "Numbers of the Damned" is its ownthing: a blend of gothic and psychological horror, where past and present are stitched together like half-remembered dreams. I believe audiences are hungry for this kind of storytelling—elevated horror rooted in atmosphere, mystery, and character. The true horror here is not only supernatural; it is the sorrow of abandoned lives, echoing long after the doors were shut. My vision for "Numbers of the Damned" is a series that lingers: haunting and beautiful, terrifying andtender. A story that unsettles because it carries truth, however painful, and refuses to fade into silence. Derek DudekCreator, "Numbers of the Damned"
